Freeze Dryer Freight Routes To Europe

Buyers plan around a single number: "six weeks to Europe". The real spread is wider, and knowing where the time goes makes the difference between a delivered machine and a missed installation date.

The four legs

Inland haulage from the factory to the port, typically two to four days.
Port handling and vessel loading, three to seven days depending on the sailing schedule.
Ocean transit, 28 to 35 days to Northern European ports.
Customs clearance and inland delivery, five to twelve days.

Add them and the range is 38 to 58 days. The average is around 45, which is why the "six weeks" figure is roughly right and occasionally badly wrong.

Direct or transshipment

Direct services to Rotterdam, Hamburg and Antwerp are the most predictable. Transshipment through a hub adds five to ten days on average, and can add more when a feeder is cancelled, which happens.

The trade is cost. Transshipment is cheaper, and for a customer with a flexible installation window it is a reasonable choice. For a customer with an installer booked and a production start date, it is a risk that should be priced.

Port choice matters more than distance

Rotterdam and Hamburg have the deepest and most frequent services and the fastest clearance for machinery in our experience. Mediterranean ports can be quicker to southern Europe but add an inland leg that is longer than the ocean saving.

The right question is not "which port is closest" but "which port plus inland leg is shortest door to door", and that depends on the final destination, not on the map.

What delays shipments

Documentation errors are the most common cause, and they are entirely avoidable: a certificate of origin that does not match the invoice, a description that does not match the tariff code, a missing declaration.

Vessel omissions and port congestion are outside anyone's control. Building ten days of buffer into a schedule costs nothing and absorbs both.

What customers should do

Confirm the installation date first, then work backwards through the legs rather than forwards from dispatch. Where a site is not ready, hold the machine at the factory crated, which is cheaper than storage at a port.

Ask for the booking confirmation and the vessel name, not for an assurance that it has shipped.

Where JIAXIN can help

We book through two forwarders and will quote both routes where they differ, with the transit time and the transshipment risk stated. What we will not do is quote a delivery date that depends on a vessel we have not booked.
